My name is Kiara. I attend Dunbar Senior High School and I’m currently in the 11th grade. I sing, write short stories, and poetry, read and dance. I don’t dance that well but I do try. When I graduate high school, I plan on going to college (preferably a HBCU) to study clinical psychology, sociology and creative writing. I also hope to start a business soon focusing on selling vintage clothing and books. Along with being on my school’s poetry slam team, I participate in the ASCEND Program. The program gives me information about HBCU’s (Historically Black College/Universities) as well as expanding my career interests in engineering and STEM activities. Back in 10th grade, I was in Dunbar’s Anime Club but due to the teacher leaving for another school, I never really got the full experience of being a member for more than a year.
As far as my feelings go towards being accepted into this program, I am ecstatic. I’m so ready to leave and start this journey. It’ll be my first time ever leaving the DMV area. I applied because I thought this would be a great opportunity school wise as well as a chance to gain more knowledge on an area I’ve been interested in ever since I was 6.
My personality is quiet but quirky. I’m usually the one in the group that opens up a bit more as time goes on. I’m a very supportive person and a self-proclaimed comedienne. I like to make little jokes to lighten up the mood and whenever someone needs a shoulder to cry on, I’m always there.
