Hi, my name is Malaika Coleman and I am a rising 11th grader. I attend McKinley Technology Education Campus and really enjoy learning new things and meeting new people. I also enjoy sports and am a full-time varsity cheerleader at McKinley. Traveling the world and seeing other cultures has always interested me and I have a goal to visit more and more countries all with unique cultures, in hopes of increasing my global knowledge. This will allow me to affect others’ views and thoughts about these nations for the better.
Being in the Model United Nations Club at my school has definitely helped me in this aspect, because it has opened my eyes to global diplomacy, and allows me to think like a representative from a different country. The club also provides great practice for diplomacy even in unfavorable situations. So far, I have been to China, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Italy. Nonetheless, I know that there is no place like Japan and cannot wait to add it to my list of countries visited. One particular reason why I’m so interested in Japan is that its history is so diverse and complicated (like any other nation), but has managed to find itself today in an overall great position as a country and seems to learn from its mistakes and the mistakes of others which I regard as a great trait.
