2018 Poetry and Song

POEM – by Minori Kon
Created for the July 25 poetry slam at Busboys & Poets, and shared at the DC Final Presentation

This program’s name is TOMODACHI.
TOMODACHI means friends in English.

After we met on July 14th, we all became friends immediately.
We took many pictures.
We wrote powerful poetry.
We went to museums, memorials and learned a lot of new things.
We listened to David Nakamura, Ms. Mary Murakami and Mr. Al Goshi’s stories.
We taught Japanese culture to children.
We ate lunch together.
We walked around Washington D.C. together.

Although we use different languages, as we spent time together in this program, we became closer and closer.

Now, we are not TOMODACHI anymore. We are FAMILY, kazoku.

SONG – to the tune of “We Are The World”
Written by the Japanese students and sung by the whole group for the Japan Final Presentation

skin color, religion, language, gender.  Everyone, is different/

we are all human and We are one
We live in this wonderful world/

let’s cooperate
All you need is love.

Looking at “real tohoku” with my own eyes

We can make happy
Our smile become their power/
Let’s make the future together./
